How to install Tree Coach, no mess, no fuss.
How to quickly and effectively install the Tree Coach tree management system in a few easy steps.
What you'll need
Each Tree Coach kit is supplied ready to assemble. Have the components and basic site tools on hand before planting.
- Water Bowl body
- Support Stakes & stake guides
- Tree ties & fixings
- Spade & mallet / staple gun
- Mulch & water supply
- Standard site PPE

Excavate
Dig a shallow hole with tapered, broken-up sides relative to the root-ball depth. Do not over-excavate below the root ball.
Assemble the unit
Assemble the Water Bowl and insert the Support Stakes into the stake guides, secured against the Bowl body.
Place the unit
Set the assembled unit in the hole with the Bowl base level with, or slightly under, the surrounding grade.
Position & backfill
Tease the root ball, centre the tree plumb, backfill to 50% and consolidate by foot, then backfill and consolidate the remainder.
Tie the tree
With the tree plumb, tie and staple-fix to the Stake per specification. Do not use ties to pull the tree straight.
Mulch & water
Apply mulch per specification and water the tree according to its root-ball size.
The finished install
When finished, the Water Bowl sits above ground, the Stakes are level in height, and the tree is central, plumb and supported - ready to establish.
Do's and Don'ts
- Keep the tree plumb before and during tying.
- Consolidate backfill in stages, by foot.
- Set the Water Bowl base level with, or slightly under, grade.
- Water according to root-ball size after mulching.
- Over-excavating below the root ball.
- Using ties to pull a leaning tree straight.
- Leaving the Bowl proud or unlevel.
- Skipping consolidation between backfill stages.
